A discussion of “Radical Love” by Patrick Cheng
In our lifetime, the relationship between church and the 2SLGBTQ community has changed from condemnation and exclusion to inclusion and celebration. Queer theology goes even further. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are finding a new confidence to speak about their life experiences in spiritual, ethical and theological terms. Queer theology critiques the heterosexist and homophobic thinking of many faith traditions; it also fashions new insights and perspectives that challenge and inspire.
Whether readers are grounded in a faith tradition or consider themselves “spiritual but not religious,”Patrick Cheng’s book
Radical Love
makes queer theology accessible. In his look at recent queer social history, he traces the development of queer theologies in ways that will resonate with our lived experiences. And in his discussion of traditional religious topics such as creation, revelation, God, Jesus, grace, sin, church and spirit, he both “queries” that tradition and proffers new insights.
Meets for two sessions:
Monday January 27, 2025
and
Monday February 3, 2025.
